How to do the Parallel Smash Shot in Padel

Who doesn't like to win a point, a game or take the game with a good smash shot? It is the winning shot by nature, powerful and aggressive, which can bring great satisfaction. But be careful, if you don't do it well, you can end up serving a perfect ball for the opponent's counterattack. Once again, we give you some tactical and technical tips to improve your padel level and skill, in this case the ‘remate’ or smash shot.

First of all, the objective of this shot is to hit the ball and make it come back high enough so that the opponent cannot touch it. In the same way as with other shots it is important that you adapt the difficulty to your level. Moving on to the tactical aspects, we tell you how to do it:

Tactical aspects:

1º How to hit the ball: flat or top spin?

As we said, if you are at a beginner or medium-low level you have to opt for a flat shot and as long as you are close to the net, when a rival's ball falls short. This way you will be able to hit the ball as high as possible with a sufficient angle so that it bounces off the top of the back wall and the ball continues to gain height. While it is important to execute the auction with some power, it is more important to get a good angle.

If your level is already more advanced and you manage to execute a topspin effect, you can make this shot further from the net, since this effect will allow the ball to go higher once it bounces off the back wall.

Technical aspects:

1º How to position yourself to perform a padel smash shot:

We have previously indicated that we must hit the ball at the highest possible point and for that reason it is very important to move quickly and calculate the path of the ball, stand in a side position (left foot in front if you are right-handed) and aim with the left hand facing the ball. Bring the racket behind your head giving yourself plenty of time.

2º When to hit the ball in a padel smash shot:

At the moment when the ball is falling, we must push ourselves with our legs and extend our arm, calculating the point of impact as high as possible. We will finish off the shot on the side of our left hip (once again, if you are right-handed).

In the video in this article you can see in detail how Majo Sánchez Alayeto, Agustín Tapia and Miguel Lamperti pull it off, the three kings (and queen) of #TeamNox who give us the opportunity to enjoy their auction shots in each tournament.
